Dear Parents,
Just a reminder that this Friday, May 17th, is Field Day. A majority of Field Day will be fun activities held outside, so please put plenty of sunscreen on your child before you send him/her to school. We cannot put it on children here at school. Your child may bring a water bottle that day, but this will be your child’s responsibility to keep up with it. School uniforms or spirit shirts/field day shirts with uniform shorts are the attire for Field Day. Tennis shoes are highly recommended and hats will be allowed when students are outside, but, once again, it will be your child’s responsibility to keep up with it. We recommend that you put your child’s name on anything he/she brings. Our soldiers from the 46th Engineer Battalion will be volunteering to man all the stations, so everything is covered. Parents, you have the day off! While we know that some of you would like to come, this particular activity is just for faculty and students. Thanks for your willingness to help, though! We appreciate you! Also, just a reminder that next Thursday, May 23, is the last day of school for students. It is a full day of school and dismissal times will be the same as usual. However, you might want to be prepared for the buses just a few minutes early, because if attendance is low that day, it will not take them as long to run their routes. Same thing for Parent Pick-Up. If you will not be here and you would like your child’s report card (K & 1st) mailed to you, please send us a self-addressed, stamped envelope, and we will put it in the mail. Otherwise, your child will bring the report card home, or you can come by the office to pick it up after school is out. |

Just a few reminders: • Students must have money in their accounts in order to be able to eat school breakfast and/or lunch. Notes are going home daily about this. A negative balance has to be paid as well as additional money placed in the account to cover future meals in order for school meals to be served. No checks can be accepted at this time – only cash and money orders. • We are having some issues with tardies in the morning. Please remember that school begins at 7:50, not 8:00. At 8:00 students are tardy. Please leave your home in plenty of time to be here on time and allow for traffic issues. We cannot excuse tardies for traffic. • Marble Slab orders are due no later than tomorrow, Thursday, April 18. It will be delivered on Friday, April 26. • Friday, April 19, is our Parents Helping Parents meeting at the Dogwood Neighborhood Center at 11:30. Come for lots of great information and some snacks – and bring a friend! • Registration packets for next school year that were sent home Monday are due back by this Friday, April 19. • Next Monday, April 22, is a day off for a Spring Holiday. Enjoy your three-day weekend. • It is very important that we have everyone back on Tuesday, April 23. We will be giving our Spring DIBELS Test that week, so we need all students in attendance. • Monday, May 6 and Tuesday, May 7 from 8:00-12:00 are our days for Head Start, LA4, and Kindergarten registration for new students for next year. A flyer with specific details has already gone home once and will be sent again the week of April 29. You may also contact the office for more information. |
You and your Teddy Bear are invited to stand with us in front of the school to show our support for the future of Fort Polk. Please make plans to show your support of growing Fort Polk to the Department of the Army beginning at 3:45 p.m. Department of the Army officials will be passing along this route at about 4:00 p.m. to a Community Listening Meeting set for 5 p.m. at the First United Pentecostal Church in Leesville. The results of this meeting will greatly impact the future strength of Fort Polk. Also, if you will be PCSing, the first day to do so with finalized records is May 10. In order to be able to do this, we must have a copy of the orders to verify the date. Otherwise, we cannot finalize the records and you will be responsible for registering your child at the new school for the remainder of this school year. In addition, if you PCS before May 10, we cannot finalize records, and you must register at the new school for the remainder of the year. As we near the end of school, all balances and records must be cleared. Because of this, the Vernon Parish School Board will not allow any meals (breakfast or lunch) to be charged in the cafeteria beginning Monday, April 15. If students have a negative balance in their accounts, they will not be allowed to be served school breakfast and/or lunch. Please be sure your child has money in his/her account so that they will not be denied a school meal. All negative balances must also be cleared before the end of school in order for students to be promoted to the next grade. Please also note that no checks may be used to pay for school meals for the remainder of the year. It must be cash or a money order. Thank you for your help with this matter.
