THREE LOUISIANA K-12 SCHOOLS RECEIVE "HIGH PERFORMING" HONOR

Louisiana's Department of Education says 56 schools have earned the state's "High Performing, High Poverty" distinction.  These schools have been identified and honored for overcoming the challenges associated with educating large populations of poor and minority children.  Schools that have at least 65 percent of their students enrolled in the free- or reduced-price meal program can earn the honor if they have earned a baseline School Performance of 100 or higher for two consecutive years, based on the state's accountability system.  School Performance Scores are based on factors that include assessment tests and dropout rates.
This is the first time that a high school or K-12 school has earned the distinction. Those schools were our own Pitkin High School in Vernon Parish, Sicily Island High School in Catahoula Parish, and Calvin High School in Winn Parish.
